An Evening with Baldwin: A Love Story
AN HCNY Event
James Baldwin grew up in East Harlem, left for Paris to survive, and came back to become the voice of a generation. His face was on the cover of Time at the height of the civil rights movement. His words — in The Fire Next Time, Giovanni's Room, Go Tell It on the Mountain — shaped how America understood race, identity, and what it means to demand dignity.
And yet, for 30 years, no one had written a major biography of the man.
Baldwin: A Love Story changes that. Author Nicholas Boggs spent years in the archives to tell the story behind the stories — tracing Baldwin's life through the four great loves who shaped his work and kept him whole. Zadie Smith called it "compulsively interesting and beautifully written." Imani Perry called it "so important and timely."
Join the Harvard Black Alumni Society of New York for an intimate discussion and Q&A with Boggs himself at the Harvard Club-- a rare chance to go deep on Baldwin's life, legacy, and the decade of research behind this book.
