HBAS Statement on

President Claudine Gay's Resignation

The events of the past month have been difficult for us to watch. President Claudine Gay's appointment was historic, symbolizing the tremendous progress the University has made in the last 50 years. HBAS celebrated what her presidency meant to our community, while others did the opposite - instantly seeking to undermine her, her credentials, and the University. The campaign against her felt personal to many of us and her decision to resign is disappointing; however, we're confident the work she was able to accomplish during her short tenure will leave an important legacy. President Gay represents much to many, but she is a person and didn't deserve the vitriol thrown at her. Our hearts go out to her, and we hope that she is able to take a moment to focus on her own well-being before returning to teaching.
