DIASPORIC BACK CHAT:

THE INTER-WAR ACTIVIST STRATEGIES OF BLACK NATIONALIST WOMEN

A HCNY Sponsored Event

Join us at the Harvard Club of New York for a powerful Black History Month lecture featuring Dr. Duncan, author of An Efficient Womanhood: Women and the Making of the Universal Negro Improvement Association.

During the 1920s and 1930s, women of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA)-- the largest social justice movement of the 20th century-- boldly challenged oppression and reshaped the global struggle for racial justice.  In this lecture, Dr. Duncan will explore how these women forged a TransAtlantic dialogue that influenced political and social movements of their time.  Drawing from Negro world newspaper archives, personal correspondences, and government records, she will highlight their vital role in shaping Black Nationalism and pan-Africanism in the early 20th century.

Don't miss this insightful exploration of the often-overlooked women who helped define a global movement for black empowerment.
