A Book Talk with A'lelia Bundles
New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award–winning journalist A’Lelia Bundles (HR ’74)
Social Impresario. Muse. Patron of the Arts. Celebrity Heiress. Philanthropist.
As part of HBAS NY’s growing partnership with the Harvard Club of New York, we’re thrilled to offer limited spots for an intimate discussion with New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award–winning journalist A’Lelia Bundles (HR ’74).
Bundles will share insights from her new biography, Joy Goddess, which chronicles the extraordinary life of A’Lelia Walker—a central figure of the Harlem Renaissance. Known for her legendary soirées at her Harlem townhouse, Walker hosted an eclectic mix of African American elites, European royals, and cultural icons. Her vibrant presence and unmatched influence earned her the nickname “the joy goddess of Harlem’s 1920s,” as coined by Langston Hughes. As her great-granddaughter and namesake, Bundles brings a deeply personal and richly informed perspective to this story.
Taking place just two days before Juneteenth, this conversation promises to be insightful, celebratory, and inspiring.
